“The Emcee is the glue that holds a storytelling evening together.” – Susan Klein
It was an honor to emcee a private event featuring CEO’s and Executive Director’s to raise funds for an upcoming documentary series on cable TV. The evening took audience members on a journey on hearing dream-achiever’s stories and guiding millennials to be dream seekers. It was a daunting responsibility to learn and introduce keynote speakers and learn the ins and outs of the run of show but the prep time, conference calls and meetings were well worth it. Preparation is key in exuding confidence and comfort behind the emcee podium because when it comes right down to it, my job as the evening’s master of ceremonies was: Be there to help the audience feel engaged with, and feel informed about, everything that is happening.
The hardest part was keeping the audience enthusiasm level high as there were a lot of speakers. But one of the more entertaining parts of the evening was an ice breaker trivia game using old-school tactics like raising hands to answer and the audience got a little kick out of it. Millennials interviewing company CEO’s especially one by charming 11-year-old girl who talked with the CEO of Africa’s Children’s Fund nonprofit group was a momentum boosting moment too. All in all the evening’s event was a resounding success. Many commented that they enjoyed it and more importantly felt involved from start to finish.
