Khao Cates, record producer, was in Seen from the INside studios chatting about getting his musical self-learned start and building a legacy though the Bridge DA Gap foundation. Growing up in Montgomery, Alabama, Khao surrounded himself with a group of friends that he calls, “Hip-Hop Heads” who all shared a love of music and more importantly how to make good music that everyone loves. He taught himself music’s intricacies by studying classical music for eight hours a day. He then went on to produce some of today’s multi-platinum records by T.I., Pharrell Williams, R. Kelly and Ludacris and received multiple Grammy nominations. Khao’s father advice “leave a lasting legacy” propelled him to pause from producing and start his foundation, Bridge DA Gap which helps school-age children learn through music and hip hop. “Music builds retention and comprehension so it’s no surprise that by learning through music, test scores and GPA’s have improved,” Khao says. He also has started KOOLriculum an academic curriculum for school-age students. Listen in as Khao chats about getting Meagan Good to be a spokesperson.
